It’s July 4th and that can only mean one thing; it’s time for fireworks, barbeque, and flying the Star Spangled Banner.

While I’m not opposed to anything listed above let’s just remember that today isn’t America’s day to celebrate the flag, even though it may seem like it. No, Flag Day in the United States is June 14. Today’s a day for Americans around the world to celebrate the signing of the Declaration of Independence 241 years ago on July 4, 1776. It was on that day during the American Revolution that the Continental Congress declared that the Thirteen Colonies saw themselves as a new country and no longer accepted the authority of British Empire to rule them.

Since your friendly neighbours to the North have just wrapped up our own celebrations in relation to Indpenedence there’s only one thing to say. Happy Fourth of July America!
